After a successful career as a Speech and Language Pathologist, Marcello Forte followed his dream to help New York City's homeless animals. For the past seven years as Executive Director of Animal Haven, Marcello has played a significant part in helping solve the city's pet overpopulation problem.
Marcello's vision has taken Animal Haven from a small Queens-based shelter to an organization that includes a upstate sanctuary, mobile adoption program and innovative adoption center in Manhattan. Animal Haven Soho, the latest project is a ground breaking new concept in sheltering – a high end boutique that offers pet supplies, grooming, training, events – and of course adoptable dogs and cats. With Marcello's leadership, the number of animals saved has grown experientially.
Marcello is also one of the founding members of the Mayor's Alliance of NYC Animals, where he remains a board member. He often consults with other shelters and rescue groups on how to improve adoptions, increase donations and how to create policies and procedures that work.
Marcello has formed partnerships with many animal organizations around the country. He believes that working together, shelters around the country can help the pet overpopulation.
Marcello has been a contributing editor for New York Dog and Hollywood Dog Magazine. He has appeared on numerous television shows including Good Morning America, Good Day New York, The View, 48 Hours, Animal Planet's Adoption Tales (two episodes), Fine Living's Ultimate Retail and Martha Stewart Show.
Marcello lives in Manhattan with his two dogs and cat.

Q:
Hi, my cat got fleas 4 mths ago.She is a house cat and my neighbours cat had them so I think I must have brought them in. We did all we were to do. Have used Frontline then advocate and also Acclaim spray. My house is extremely clean with all wooden floors and we use spray and wash materials cat is on regularly. They seem to be away but then she starts scratching again and I have looked and dont seem to see anything at all. Dont know wether they are still coming back or I am being paranoid. What can I do? Could they still be laying eggs?
